EATING DIRT

yesterday i hosted one of my work's costume preview days. although it can be an extremely stressful process... picking out costumes is so exciting. it also gives us girls time to bond and pig out on delicious appetizers and desserts. being the hostess, i decided to make something special. {and absolutely delicious!!} i found this dirt cake recipe over at wildheartwhispers and knew i had to make it!! {the vanilla really adds something unique to it} and trust me when i say, it was the hit of the day! here is a link to the recipe... now go make it for someone special this holiday season!

NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS TREE

yesterday i had some time to put my christmas tree up before the thanksgiving festivities began. {this is seriously the earliest i have ever gotten the tree put up} this year i decided to try something completely different with my tree. since i am beyond obsessed with halloween, i thought... why not do a halloween themed tree? this way, my house can feel spooky into the new year!

about the decorations... overall, they were not expensive. i got most of the decorations the day after halloween when everything was marked down. also, i got creative with the different decorations to put in the tree. some of my favorites include cobwebs, mini caudrons, doa tags, and mini voodoo dolls. {the cobwebs gave it that extra eeriness} i added a few of these bats in the tree as well. the dead groom nutcracker was from target and i thought it was the perfect mix of christmas and halloween! i loooove my tree this year... i just can't get enough of it!!

happy holiday season! xo

SOLSTICE SCENTS

i am slightly obsessed with perfume. its not a matter of not smelling good, its a matter of smelling amazing! i discovered this company through one of grav3yardgirl's youtube videos. a lot of their scents are based off of creepy or eerie things. {are you surprised by my interest in them?} not to mention, they have good selection of products and are very reasonably priced. you also get a free sample bottle with each purchase. plus, this is the perfect time of year to try out some richer scents. i highly recommend giving them a try.. especially if you like heavier scents. my personal favorites are manor and foxcroft!!

FRAME IT UP

over the summer {when i had a lot more time for crafting} i made this personalized, framed letter for a really good friend of mine. {i saw something similar on pinterest and had to do it!} long story short, my friend got me an amazing job teaching dance. so, i wanted to show my appreciation and make her something special. this was a really fun project that would make an adorable and thoughtful gift for your loved ones this holiday season! this does need a decent amount of supplies, but trust me its still super easy. and i got everything i needed from michaels.

all you need is: a wooden frame, a wooden letter, three different patterned sheets of scrapbook paper, a set of various sized paintbrushes, one color paint, mod podge, e6000 glue, and a few fun decorative pieces.
directions: start off by painting the back side of your frame. while that's drying, take the cardboard piece that is inside the frame and trace it on one of your scrapbook sheets. cut out and mod podge onto the cardboard. trace the letter backwards onto one of the other sheets and cut out. cut off the bottom half of the letter and mod podge what's left onto the front side of the letter. trace the letter again with the last sheet, cut out, cut off the top, then mod podge onto the bare part of the letter. don't worry if they don't match up exactly.. that's what trimming and the decorations are for! once the back of the frame is dry, paint the front. as that is drying, take your e6000 and glue the button decorations in the middle of the letter where the two patterned sheets of paper meet. once the frame is dry, use the e6000 to glue a bow or flower onto the corner. place the cardboard into the frame and use the e6000 to glue the letter onto it. there are a lot of little steps... but i promise even a beginner could take this on!

FALL FAVORITES

i refuse to accept the fact that halloween is over. but, at least the fall spirit is still in the air {even if the temperature is more like mid-december!!} fall candles are my absolute favorite... especially ones that smell of pumpkin or a fall evening. i continuously light them throughout the year. even in the spring and summer. however, now is the time to take full advantage and have a different fall scent lit daily! here are just a few of my absolute favorites!!

{leaves, pumpkin patch, spiced pumpkin, sandalwood}
